On Friday 2 November a group of us visited friend of 115, Michael Marriott, at his new exhibition You say Volvo, I say Potato at the Stanley Picker Gallery, part of Kingston University. Michael had come across a sulphur yellow Volvo estate car at the end of its life, carefully deconstructed it (see here). and used various parts of it in the show. The title of the show refers to how some of the extracted elements, when inked-up with exhaust soot and sump oil, made ideal objects for relief printing – much like potato printing – the results of which were on display on panels of yellow-painted plywood. After meeting Michael in the gallery, and some D-I-Y printing, we enjoyed a few beers and spicy prawn crackers at nearby pub The Cocoanut. The exhibition ends on 15 December. More details here.
