Elena presented a vivid encapsulation of ten years’ research into ‘The Trumans Case,’ her examination of the way the legendary London brewery established, grew and maintained its iconic branding. In a whistle-stop 25-minute speech that included sidebars on gin palaces, beer houses, the history of brewing and the derivation of the term ‘public house,’ Elena found time to be erudite, funny, charming, informative, in tune with the dozens of people gathered in the atrium, strict with the allotted time – and to dispense a glass of water to someone overcome by coughing. It was a tour de force. If only all PhD presentations were this much fun.
