Less product placement, more an appreciation of the packaging of the steel wool used yesterday

After a communal lunch of bought-in wraps, coffee and chocolate biscuits, 14 of us downed our usual tools and picked up different ones for a spring clean. The focus was on the common parts, both inside and outside the building. In the front courtyard an early spring sunshine shone while ivy was cut back, vines trimmed and green waste and fallen leaves were tidied away. Inside, the stairs and landings were scoured, the handrail was waxed and polished, scuffed paintwork was touched-up and woodwork (kitchen chairs, atrium post-shelf, bathroom shelves) were revived. While kitchen surfaces and drawers got cleared and scrubbed, others defrosted, decluttered and cleaned the fridge. Braver members climbed ladders – and using elaborate vacuum extensions – removed dead flies, cobwebs and dust from the atrium window frames. Light flooded in, the space sparkled.
